Antivirus Performance Comparison

It’s crucial to understand the amount of computer resources your antivirus program will consume. The most effective programs are those that have minimal impact on the system performance while providing superior security against viruses and malware.

The most reputable antivirus companies have extensive test programs that are widely released in PDF format for download. The reports provide at-a-glance assessments of protection, performance and usability for each of the suites, and detailed graphs and charts illustrating the results of particular testing elements. Important figures to watch out for include the percentage of real-world or reference set malware threats that are blocked, neutralised or compromised by the software, as well as the percentage of false positive detections of benign software.

Avast Free Antivirus had the highest scores for Windows virus detection in tests conducted by AVComparatives in June 2023. It also had the highest rates of success for blocking Mac malware. It also scored high in the categories of full-scan, passive and quick-scan.

Bitdefender Total Security was the most non-intrusive paid program followed by Kaspersky Total Security, and ESET Security Cloud Free. However it was also the slowest in the full-scan as well as quick-scan categories. The program’s relatively low impact on background may be due to the fact it doesn’t operate as a default program on Windows 10 or 11, like most of its competitors.

Intego had the lowest system impact background and full scans but it still managed to catch every bit of malware. It’s a rare business that concentrates solely on Macs and is a valuable addition to any security arsenal.
